The Dallas County Republican Party Claims It Will Be the First Large County In the Country to Conduct a Hand-Marked, Hand-Counted Primary
In a series of recent meetings, the Dallas County Republican Party has made it clear that it intends to conduct a precinct-specific, hand-marked, hand-counted primary in March 2026. That is very exciting. It is what we all have been waiting for and anticipating. After all, that is what Chairman Allen West promised us during his 2024 primary campaign. But, has anyone seen the DCRP’s plan? Have 3,000+ hand counters been identified and confirmed? How much are they being paid? And perhaps most importantly, has the money been raised and secured to fund the hand-counted primary? According to the DCRP’s last Federal Ethics Commission Report in July 2025, the Party had approximately $137,000.00 in the bank with a monthly burn rate of approximately $23,000.00 a month. A very conservative estimate of the amount needed just to pay the workers in a hand-counted primary far exceeds $800,000.00 and that amount does not take into account the cost of the equipment and supplies.
New Texas Redistricting Map
Gov. Greg Abbott signed legislation redrawing the Texas congressional map on Friday. It has been reported that the redrawn map could potentially give Republicans five additional congressional seats in 2026. A lawsuit challenging the redrawn districts as being racially discriminatory has been filed.

Is the Dallas County Republican Party Hand Counting Paper Ballots in the 2026 Republican Primary?

It is a fair question, considering that hand counting paper ballots in the Republican Primary is the platform that current Chair Allen West ran on in the 2024 Republican Primary. Yet, since his election, we have not heard one word from him about hand counting paper ballots. It is the Party’s choice to hand count its own Primary. We are a little less than a year away from the 2026 Primary, and I have not seen a plan or a resolution to hand count paper ballots in the Primary. Have you?
The Race for Texas House Speaker—What Is Next?

As we reported last week, the House Republican caucus met to select their candidate for Speaker while we were in the middle of our SREC meeting.
What happened:
Caucus convened with all 88 members present.
First 2 votes were split, with Rep. David Cook in the lead but without a majority.
Caucus recessed, whereupon 2 dozen + members that were supporting Rep. Burrows left, in hopes of undermine the vote or possibly break quorum (didn’t happen).
Caucus voted and confirmed Cook as the official candidate.
Burrows announced, shortly after the caucus vote, that he was the ‘speaker elect’ (no such thing) with endorsements from 38 Republicans and 38 Democrats. This was false. Several of the Republican members he listed had endorsed Cook, others he listed without permission, and several of the Democrats declined having given him permission to list their names. Is someone that flat out lies like this the kind of person we want as Speaker?!?
BOTH of our Dallas Republican representatives were in the group that left the caucus and have endorsed Burrows.
If Reps. Button and Meyers vote for Burrows in the official Speaker election on January 14th, they will be in violation of caucus rules.
The SREC approved a 2nd resolution on this issue (see below), endorsing Cook and reminding the rogue Republicans that a vote for anyone else would be grounds for censure.
