Where else can you wade into a throng of 9,000 die-hard Republican voters? Only at the Republican Party of Texas Biennial Convention, which is the largest in the whole USA. This is where our Legislative Priorities are formed for the following legislative session and our Platform is updated. If you have never attended, what are you waiting for? As it is a 3 step process, many people are put off by the process by which you get there. But with a little bit of planning, you can get your PTO arranged, transportation to Houston and back and find a roommate/buddy to share that hotel expense. Texas has been RED for all these years because 9,000 of you step up every two years to be a part of this! It is an honor and a privilege to be a Texas State Convention Delegate and/or Alternate Delegate and represent your Senate District and active Republicans who want to go are likely to be elected as a delegate to attend.
STEP #1: THE PRECINCT CONVENTION: Republican Primary Election: Early voting begins February 17, 2026 and closes February 28, 2026. March 3, 2026 is Election Day. This election is a hard one because you have to pick between only Republicans. After the filing deadline on December 8th ends then we must get busy and meet our candidates and judge which one has the same values as we do. Candidate forums are a great way to learn and meet your candidates. The Precinct Convention date has been set by the Dallas County Republican Party Chairman for March 5, 2026 Election Day from 6:00pm – 8:30pm. If your Precinct Chairman does not show up to run the Precinct Convention meeting, then you are entitled to claim the precinct packet and the instructions for running the precinct convention will be in your packet. The venues have not yet been determined, but we will gather by Senate District. At your Precinct Convention you can sign up to be a delegate to your Senate District Convention, to be held March 28, 2026 (this date is set State-wide by the Rules of the Republican Party of Texas to be held on the 4th Saturday of March, with local venues to be determined by DCRP SD Convention Chairs). If you cannot attend your precinct convention, call your precinct chair to sign you up to attend your SD Convention. If there is only one space available for Delegate status, sign up as Alternate or you may sign up as an At-Large Delegate through the Nominations Committee approximately two weeks PRIOR to the Senate District Convention. Precinct Conventions are REQUIRED to be held by Senate District in the same location for the entire Senate District, per Texas Election Code. See Precinct Convention Locations below.
THE SENATE DISTRICT CONVENTION: Generally will be held the 4th Saturday of March at a venue determined by the SD Convention Chair. The statewide date for Senate District Conventions per RPT Rule 27A must be held ON March 28, 2026. You MUST attend this meeting to be elected as a delegate to the State Convention. Senate District Conventions will be held at the following locations. If you are SURE you can attend the Texas State Republican Convention in Houston, please sign up to be a Delegate. If you are not sure, PLEASE sign up to be an ALTERNATE DELEGATE, as 95-100% of ALTERNATES are elevated to full DELEGATE status at Convention once you arrive due to unexpected circumstances, some people cannot attend last minute. This is not for resume building.
Temporary Chairs for the upcoming SD conventions were elected at the November Dallas County Republican Party County Executive Committee (CEC) Meeting. Dallas County is organized by 4 Senate Districts: SD2, SD12, SD16 and SD23. Precinct Conventions will be held simultaneously on March 5, 2026 from 6:30 - 8:30pm. Make sure you know which Senate District you are in: it makes a difference. Or call the Dallas County Republican Party office. Senate District Conventions on March 28 will generally called to order by 9am and last until approximately 3pm. There are four Senate Districts in Dallas County:
- Senate District 2 (State Sen. Bob Hall) Freedom Place Church Rowlett TX
- Senate District 12 (State Sen. Tan Parker) McCullough Middle School, Highland Park TX
- Senate District 16 (No Republican State Senator) La Prada Church of Christ, 2724 La Prada Drive; Mesquite TX
- Senate District 23 (No Republican State Senator) Prayer Mountain 5950 Eagle Ford Drive; Dallas 75249
Each one of these Senate District Convention Temporary Chairs will need your help serving on the following Committees: Arrangements, Rules, Credentials, Nominations and Resolutions. PLEASE contact them as soon as possible to become involved whether or not you are able to attend the Republican Party of Texas in Houston. You do NOT have to be a precinct chair in order to participate in any of these events. Please share this with your friends and get them involved! THE REPUBLICAN PARTY OF TEXAS (RPT) STATE CONVENTION: At the SREC meeting held Dec 6 in Austin, it was announced that Governor Abbott has pledged funds to reduce registration fees to any delegate under 25 or over 65, and buses to the convention will be available at no cost to take you from Dallas to and from the George R Brown Convention Center in Houston on May 26. This also will save your parking fees. Start now to plan to be there June 10 - 13. Registration opens June 8. You cannot put Convention Delegate on your resume until you actually ATTEND the Convention. At State Convention we elect our State Republican Executive Committeeman and Committeewoman Members (SREC) and vote on Resolutions, Legislative Priorities, Platform…all the things that make our Republican Party run for the following two-year period. We also elect our Party Chair, Vice-Chair, and the National Committeeman and Committeewoman positions. Roll Call is taken to assure a Quorum in each Senate District. Committee members (Rules, Resolution, Platform, Legislative Priorities) begin committee meetings on Monday June 8. Convention attendees begin arriving on Wednesday afternoon, June 10, 2026 and are expected to be there all day Thursday, Friday and Saturday (June 11, 12 & 13) of Convention to VOTE on Party business and the RPT Convention Committee has to plan for full attendance. Room blocks are set up for convention delegates and rates are pre-set by the Host Hotels by the RPT at around $200/night + hotel fees. Convention Delegates and Grassroots members receive advance notice to book hotels. We encourage signing up for the free buses and sharing Air B&Bs or hotel accommodations. Otherwise, transportation, hotels and meals are the delegates' responsibility.
