Lightning Strikes Twice!

At this time in our nation, many of us are laser-focused on the upcoming November election, putting behind us a brutal impeachment trial and an equally brutal primary election. We all know that Texas is that “last safe zone” to where normal people are heading. Texans are now planning to show up en masse to protect the last bastion of freedom in the US. God help us if we don’t.

While thousands of us are rightfully engaged, enlightened and energized for November, many of us are also working overtime to look ahead to the upcoming local elections in May, 2025.  We have to put this on our radar.

Much of the bulwark being set in place to offset liberal policies in our school boards and municipal administrations is beginning to take root in the form of a focus on local elections.  At least 5 or 6 years ago we began the effort to recruit and elect candidates to run under the Conservative banner, and inform voters of the candidates ideological beliefs and voting records.  This has steadily evolved, especially over the past 3 years.  We have evolved from a stance of “we don’t participate in non-partisan elections” to a new era of “this candidate has very liberal tendencies and that candidate is a strong fiscal conservative and pro-growth”.  We often hear the lament, “I won’t vote in the upcoming school board and/or city council election because I don’t know which candidate aligns with my values.”  We now know the importance of becoming informed of the ideologies of each candidate in a "non-partisan" race.

The City of Rowlett is a poster child for the effort to prove that a thriving conservative, small town-like community whose leadership had gone “woke” could be salvaged and brought back to sane fiscal decision-making. It's been a ray of sunshine breaking through the clouds watching a community come together, roll up their sleeves, get involved, and get to work.

In this community, it all started when a Republican Women’s Club was formed and began meeting at a church that offered their sanctuary in which to meet.  Following several months later, a Rowlett Republican Men’s Club was established, meeting at the same church in Rowlett.  Centered around a group of very active conservative precinct chairs, they began with a concentrated mission to find a replacement for a Rowlett City Councilman who had resigned from their recently elected council duties. A special election was called and four conservatives announced their intentions to file.

Knowing that four conservatives would split the voters and likely end in a victory for the liberal, the four met following a meeting of the Rowlett Republican Men’s Club to determine which one had the best chance at victory. After an hour, they decided and agreed which one they would support. However, one of the four reneged and filed to run anyway, making it two conservatives and two liberals in the race.

Of those four candidates, two advanced to a runoff, and the one who reneged and lost then angrily endorsed the liberal candidate. The election process began all over again.  The conservative ran on a fiscally conservative policy and exposed the liberal candidate for their DEI support along with many other liberal policy agendas.  With this revelation, voters finally were able to make an informed decision.  Our task force doubled down, used data and contact info, recruited a large group of local support, and our conservative voters showed up, electing their like-minded candidate and winning by over 13%. They knew they finally had a choice.

The lesson here: KNOW before you VOTE!

Fast forward 6+ months. With that extra conservative vote on the Rowlett City Council, the motion was made and followed by a second to dismantle the DEI Commission. In the blink of an eye, the votes were cast 4-3.  The gay pride events disappeared from public funding and the DEI Commission was promptly dismantled and erased from the City of Rowlett website overnight, clearly demonstrating that it is not the job of the city nor a good use of tax dollars to fund such agendas and activities.
